New technologies are part of our day to day life. They have come to stay. Children and youngsters use online technologies as a natural way to socialize, connect with each other, spend their free time and feel part of a peer group. But along with its great advantages, the use of the Internet, cell phones and videogames also involves risks, especially for the younger ones. It is known that children may suffer online violence or become victims of harmful content. But another less known risk associated to the misuse of new technologies is developing an addiction.
Gaudium Foundation is a non-profit organization devoted since 1997 to the study and prevention of addictions such as pathological gambling and other risk conducts related to the bad use of online technologies. The main purpose of our foundation is to research and prevent these problems and promote healthy habits among children. We seek also to develop awareness raising activities targeting health authorities and the general public.
Gaudium Foundation main activities are research projects and epidemiological studies, publications, scientific meetings on these topics, awareness raising activities, preventive programs, helplines for affected people and training of therapists and experts.
More than 100.000 children and their parents of 500 schools participate in our preventive and educational programs every year.
Our programs are financed by contracts obtained participating in public tenders, grants and private donations.
As part of our mission, we have a strong interest in developing liaisons and joint projects with national and international organizations with similar interests.
